Our Brewery

The Brewery was established in April 1995 as a partnership between 2 teachers at Portree High School, the secondary school on the island.
In December 1995 production began Around Here in purpose-built premises at Uig, the ferry terminal for the Outer Hebrides.
At the end of 1996 one of the partners decided to withdraw from the brewery to concentrate on other activities.

The remaining founder, Angus MacRuary, took on sole proprietorship until April 1998 when the brewery incorporated. Angus then resigned his teaching post the following year to concentrate full-time on the brewery. Brewing duties are undertaken by Pam Jones (Scotland's only female brewer) and Norrie MacLeod, both of whom are ex-chefs.
Our Beers are sent Out and About around Skye, Scotland and the UK. Canada, Finland, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand and Spain have all been helping to expand our overseas markets.
A shop (seasonal) has been established at the brewery which retails brewery souvenirs and Skye, and other Scottish, bottled beers and country wines. Product Information will let you find out what we've got.
The attention to detail given to all aspects of production, distribution and customer care has been recognised in several awards at beer festivals and elsewhere throughout the UK, a few of which are on show in the Trophy Cabinet.
If you look Out There you'll find a variety of 'off island' businesses and associations, all very supportive of our endeavours, that have swapped links with us.
